Housing
The rental market on Guam continues to harden. Renters still have a good selection of apartments, condominiums and houses, but rental rates are increasing. Most residential leases are for one to three years. A security deposit of one month's rent is standard, but there is no "key" money required. Mid-level rentals range from $900 - $1300 for a two-bedroom house and $1400 - $2000 for a three-bedroom house. Condominiums and houses are available for sale in Fee Simple. There are certain restrictions to foreign individuals purchasing properties, but corporations registered on Guam can purchase properties freely. Purchases are usually handled at title and escrow companies with title insurance available to protect buyers. Price for a three-bedroom condominium (mid-level unit) averages from $170,000 with three-bedroom houses selling from $170,000 - $225,000, depending on square footage.

Health Care
Guam offers some significant health care advantages to Americans living in Asia. The medical board of physicians on Guam has set standards for practitioners which are similar to those in California. All doctors must be U.S. trained and board eligible to practice on Guam. Primary and secondary care is available at many clinics throughout the island and at the Guam Memorial Hospital which serves as the anchor of health care on Guam. The U.S. Navy also has a hospital on the island which offers care for active duty and retired military personnel.

Education
A full American-style public school system is available to all citizens and residents of the Territory. Education receives particular emphasis as close to half of the government's budget is education-related. The Government of Guam spends approximately 40% of its annual budget on education and Guam has some of the highest requirements for teaching credentials in the United States. There are 25 public and 15 private elementary schools; 7 public and 12 private middle schools; 5 public and 9 private high schools; and, 3 Department of Defense schools on Guam. The University of Guam and the Guam Community College provide post-secondary degrees in a number of disciplines. Masters programs are available in several fields. As with Guam's high schools, both institutions are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Golf in the Tropics
Golfers adore Guam--- from beginners to professionals. There are eight golf courses and two military courses, several of which offer panoramic views of either the Pacific Ocean or the Philippine Sea. Our scenic location and warm climate make it an ideal site to play the game. Several degrees of difficulty are part of the experience on the greens here, with masterly designed courses by greats such as Jack Nicolaus, Gary Player and Sam Snead. The atmosphere is welcoming, and there are no private clubs on Guam that will turn you away. Military passes can be applied for to play on the two courses behind security gates.

Haute Couture to Treasured Bargains
Shopping on Guam spans the preferences of Western oriented fashions to the unique offerings of Micronesian handicrafts. Exquisite choices are provided at places such as Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo, Chanel, Gucci, Cartier, and Hermes. Mid-budget stores carry popular Western brands at Macy's, BCBG Outlet, Anne Klein, Esprit, United Colors of Benetton, Nine West and Footlocker to name just a few. Budget shopping experiences reach an apex at Ross Dress for Less and one of the world's largest K-Mart stores. Three large shopping malls on island feature movie theaters, food courts, wireless internet access, and hundreds of stores waiting for your visit.

Sports are Hot on Guam
Organized sports cover competitive training and engagements at the local, regional, national and international levels. Baseball, bowling, soccer, football, swimming, running, cycling, volleyball, skateboarding, golf, tennis, racquetball, windsurfing, canoe racing, rugby, and eco-challenges are a handful of examples. Tropical recreation supported by instructional programs and equipment rentals cover such interests as jet skiing, windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking, parasailing and even sky diving.

Our island is host to a wide range of regional and international sports events including the Micronesian Games, South Pacific Games, True-Grit Rugby Invitational, and the Invitational Outrigger Competition Guam to name a few.

Many charter boats can also be rented at the Agana Basin. Fishing on Guam is mostly characterized by the hook and line method although cast netting and gill netting are also used. Spearfishing with snorkel gear is popular for night fishing. Guided boat tours up the Talofofo River into the interior of the island are also popular.

Other outdoor recreation for the adventurous include trekking on nature trails, jungle tours (or "boonie stomps"), and mountain biking.

Dive Guam!
Guam is surrounded by magnificent coral reefs that lay the foundation the island sits upon. This is one of the least expensive dive training places in the world, with 5-star PADI facilities. The diversity of the corals and fish is one of Guam's true treasures to experience with water temperatures averaging 80 degrees. Boat, reef, technical, wreck, underwater photography and night dives are common on Guam. One note-able dive takes you to the WWI & WWII wrecks of the Cormoran & Tokai Maru, which coincidentally were sunk practically touching stern to stern. If deep water is unattainable for you, there are great spots right in Tumon Bay to snorkel and escape into an underwater world.

Food for all tastes
Guam is a haven of diverse restaurants offering scrumptious delicacies to please any palate. There are numerous Chamorro, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Chinese, Mexican, Indian and European eating establishments each with its own unique ambience. American fast food chains have become standard fare for those on the go along with American-theme restaurants such as TGI Fridays, Tony Roma's, Hard Rock Café, Planet Hollywood, Outback Steakhouse and Lone Star Steak House.

Magnificent Micronesia
One of the best aspects of being on Guam is that you are very close to experiencing our neighboring islands in Micronesia. Guam, as the leader of Micronesia's growing tourism market, is Continental Micronesia's transportation hub to all major island centers of Saipan, Rota, Tinian, Yap, Palau, Pohnpei and Majuro.
